Senior Pastor

Senior Pastor

Reports to: Council of Elders

Staff Management:  There are 7 staff, plus a number of committees and working groups – some of which are managed by staff and some are managed directly by the Senior Pastor.

Hours: Full time.

Personal Criteria:

  • Dynamic personal relationship with Jesus, seeking on-going growth and spiritual maturity.
  • Accepts the infallibility of scripture and doctrine as expressed in the “Apostle’s creed” (following).
  • Humble dependence on God’s wisdom and strength, through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, to do God’s will for God’s glory.
  • A pastoral heart – having deep concern love and empathy for the congregation and wider community
  • Gifted with the abilities and passion for:
    • leadership,
    • preaching,
    • teaching, and
    • mentoring.
  • Visionary, with ability to inspire, lead, unite and disciple others to achieve the vision.
  • Dedicated to God’s standard for unity in the Body of Christ in all teamwork situations.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma of Theology or Christian Ministry from a recognised Bible College.
  • Accredited by Churches of Christ Victoria and Tasmania or is willing to undergo the process of Accreditation with CCVT.
  • Proven experience in management/leadership development.
  • Working experience outside of the Church is also considered to be valuable, though not essential.

 

Skills/experience:

  • Experience in a Senior Minister role is highly desirable, though not essential.
  • Strong evidence of leadership along with setting of vision and successfully implementing.
  • Experienced and gifted communicator, preacher and teacher.
  • Ability to guide, coach and mentor staff and key leaders to achieve the Church’s vision and goals.

 

Accountabilities: 

  • To deliver the Vision and Mission of York St.
  • Leadership of staff, volunteers and the congregation.
  • Ensure effective and strategic connections into the Ballarat community (in order to deliver on York Street’s Vision and Mission).
  • Effective evangelism and discipleship programs.
  • To ensure a healthy and vibrant church culture.
  • To oversee effective and prudent financial management.

 

Deliverables:

  • A rolling 5 year strategic plan with annual review/updates.
  • The ongoing development of all staff supported by structured Job Descriptions and continual review processes in place.
  • Annual operational plan (including reporting structures).
  • Annual evangelism plan.
  • Annual discipleship plan.
  • Annual ministry team plan.
  • Annual missions plan.

Reports to:
Finance and Operations Manager

Type of position:
Permanent Part-Time

Hours:
22 hours per week.

You may be required to work reasonable additional hours as required by this position.
Purpose of position

  1. To provide efficient and effective reception and administration support for York Street Church of Christ.
  2. To release ministry staff from administrative tasks to better enable them to minister and serve.
  3. To support and release the church body to use their gifts to serve God.
  4. To support the church in its pursuit of excellence and in its vision and mission.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Front of house, reception, customer service duties.
  2. General administration and office duties including but not limited to:
    – Answering phone calls
    – Email and calendar management
    – Printing and photocopying
    – Computer tasks
  3. Administration duties associated with our Sunday services:
    – Assistance with rostering
    – Announcement slides
    – Orders of service
    – Podcast uploads
    – Maintaining attendance records.
  4. Assist with maintenance of ‘Elvanto’ database.
  5. Collate and prepare monthly “What’s Happening” flyers.
  6. Prepare communications (letters, emails etc.) to church family as required.
  7. Room set up as needed.
  8. Train and support office volunteers.
  9. Additional reasonable administration tasks to support ministry staff, Operations Manager or elders.

Key deliverables

  1. The church office running smoothly as the communication and organisational hub of the church.
  2. Visitors, incoming calls and correspondence received, screened and appropriate action initiated.
  3. All communications/requests responded to in a professional, efficient, confidential and helpful manner
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    – Knowledge of clerical practices and procedures advantageous.
    – Excellent reception and phone manner
    – Excellent computer skills

Proficient in:
Microsoft Office Suite; Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel
A self-starter and thrive on meeting deadlines and you like working in a fast-paced environment.
Personal Attributes:

A servant-hearted, friendly, compassionate and sincere person who genuinely enjoys both tasks and people.
Excellent administration, organisational and customer service skills and a high attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), and ability to communicate well with all ages and build both internal and external relationships.
Ability to work across a wide variety of tasks and juggle multiple priorities and conflicting demands in a busy environment.
A flexible team player – able to take direction, work collaboratively and be happy to assist in other areas while also being able to work autonomously and show initiative.
Mature in Christian faith and character, Kingdom minded, active member of the York St Church of Christ.
